The juniors recently spent a day at Colchester Zoo studying African animals as part of their topic work. We experienced an African workshop in which we discovered that giraffes communicate with one another using a low moaning noise inaudible to the human ear. We were able to hear them, amplified, during the workshop. We fed giraffes and learned that they have the same number of neck bones as humans! The brave amongst us handled a corn snake; we were fascinated by the antics of the mandrills and we discovered why Fennec foxes have big ears. All in all, a great day out.
