On 14th March 2014, Year 10 pupils attended The Big Bang Fair at the Birmingham NEC – a huge display of the many varied aspects of science, technology, engineering and maths. Designed to widen students’ awareness of possible careers and to discover the role of these subjects in perhaps some unexpected places.
There was almost too much to cover, but among the activities our students tried controlling a nuclear power station, saw chemical reactions used to create special effects for TV and admired some fine engineering from the likes of Rolls Royce and JCB.
For some reason the stalls for welding with chocolate and building with marshmallows and straws were particularly popular with the crowds.
